Be Very Glad
March 10th
Today’s Encouragement is, “Dear friends, don't be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad-for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.” 1 Peter 4:12-13 NLT
Be Very Glad -
Our first response is, “What? I don’t want anything to do with ' fiery trials,’ thank you very much!”
Okay, let’s take a deep breath and try to understand. Jesus said we will have trouble, suffering, and even fiery trials in this life (John 16:33). It happens to believers and nonbelievers; it’s just part of our earthly existence, and there's nothing strange about it.
However, trials and troubles have a profound purpose for believers. They make us partners with Christ! This does not imply that we are also required to suffer Jesus's terrible beating and death. No! He has done that once for all! Instead, we become like Him, partners with Him, as we suffer the difficulties of this life.
We don’t need to seek it, for it will inevitably come, but how will we bear it? How do we live as believers while in the season of suffering?
God invites us to do what only He can empower us to do - be very glad, even in fiery trials, because it leads (reread the verse) to Wonderful Joy!
Father God, only You can strengthen us to endure and be very glad as we experience the many fiery trials of this life. Help us to focus on the Wonderful Joy of seeing Jesus and look beyond our troubles.
