Advent is a season of expectant waiting and worship as we remember Christ’s first coming and joyfully look toward His promised return. Each week focuses on a different theme—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love—and invites families to pause together, read God’s Word, pray, and light the Advent candles.
Week 1 – HOPE (Purple Candle)

Scripture: Isaiah 9:2, 6–7

Devotional:  The world can feel dark and uncertain, but God promised long ago that a Savior would come—One who brings light, life, and lasting hope. Jesus is the fulfillment of every promise God has made. Advent reminds us that our hope is not in circumstances, but in Christ who came to save and who will come again.

Discussion Question: Where do you need to place your hope in Jesus instead of your circumstances this week?

Guided Prayer:

“Lord Jesus, You are our hope. Strengthen our hearts to trust every one of Your promises, especially when life feels uncertain or overwhelming. Let Your steady light shine into every corner of our home and guide us with Your truth, comfort, and peace. Fill us again with the hope that only You can give. Amen.”

Candle: Light the first purple candle (Hope).

Week 2 – PEACE (Purple Candle)

Scripture: Luke 2:13–14; John 14:27

Devotional: When Jesus was born, the angels declared peace to the world—not a peace based on perfect circumstances, but a deep, inner peace rooted in God’s presence. Advent invites us to receive Christ’s peace and to become people who bring peace into our homes, relationships, and community.

Discussion Question: What is one place in your life where you need the peace of Jesus to calm your heart?

Guided Prayer:

“Father, thank You that Jesus is truly our Prince of Peace. In a world filled with noise, pressure, and uncertainty, quiet our fears and calm the storms within our hearts. Settle our anxieties with the steady assurance of Your presence and remind us that Your peace is stronger than any circumstance we face. Help us to walk in Your peace today—peace that guards our minds, steadies our spirits, and fills our home with Your comforting presence. Amen.”

Candle: Light the two purple candles (Hope + Peace).

Week 3 – JOY (Pink Candle)

Scripture: Luke 2:10–11; Philippians 4:4

Devotional: The shepherds were the first to hear the joyful news of Jesus’ birth. God’s joy meets us where we are and invites us into His presence. Advent joy isn’t based on how we feel—it’s rooted in the truth that Christ has come, Christ is with us, and Christ will return.

Discussion Question:
What is one reason you can rejoice in Jesus today, even if life is hard?

Guided Prayer:
“Lord, restore to us the deep and lasting joy of truly knowing You. Renew our hearts with fresh wonder at who You are and all You have done. Let Your presence fill our home with gladness, peace, and hope as we celebrate Your coming and remember Your faithfulness. Draw us close to You, and let Your joy strengthen us in every season. Amen.”

Candle: Light two purple candles + the pink candle (Hope, Peace, Joy).

Week 4 – LOVE (Purple Candle)

Scripture: John 3:16–17; 1 John 4:9–10

Devotional: At Christmas we remember the greatest act of love in history—God sending His Son to rescue us. Advent love is sacrificial, generous, and active. As we celebrate Jesus’ coming, we prepare our hearts to receive His love and share it with others.

Discussion Question:

Who can you show Christlike love to this week, and what would that look like?

Guided Prayer:
“Jesus, thank You for loving us with a perfect, unfailing love. Your love is patient, kind, sacrificial, and always pursuing our hearts. Help us slow down enough in this Advent season to truly receive Your love—not just with our minds, but deep within our souls. Fill us so completely with Your presence that Your love naturally overflows through our words, our actions, and our attitudes. Teach us to love others the way You have loved us—freely, generously, and without fear. Make our home a place where Your love is seen, heard, and felt in every conversation, every act of kindness, and every moment of grace. Amen.”

Candle: Light all four candles (Hope, Peace, Joy, Love).
