Sent but Secure: The Harvest Is Ready… Are We?

Text: Luke 10:1–22
Most Christians don’t struggle with knowing what to do—they struggle with actually doing it.
In Luke 10, Jesus sends out 72 disciples. Not scholars. Not professionals. Just regular people like you and me—with a simple mission: go share peace, heal, and proclaim the Kingdom of God.
He didn’t say, “Wait until you feel ready.” He said, “Go.”
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” – Luke 10:2 (NIV)
Jesus is still calling today. The harvest is still ready. The question is—will you go?
Truth You Can Stand On: You Are Sent AND Secure
Being sent by Jesus doesn’t mean it will always be easy—but it does mean you are never alone.
Jesus told the disciples they would face rejection, opposition, even wolves—but then said, “Do not fear.” Why? Because our confidence is in who sends us, not in how people respond.
The Tomato Garden
A few summers ago, a woman in my previous church planted a backyard garden. She didn’t know much—just watched some YouTube videos, borrowed a shovel, and planted tomato seeds. She watered, waited, and prayed.
One day, her son shouted, “Mom! Look!”
The garden had exploded with fruit.
She hadn’t done everything perfectly—but she had planted. She had shown up.
The harvest isn’t about your talent—it’s about your obedience.
Practice #1: Set Your Alarm for 10:02
We’re asking our whole church to set a daily alarm at 10:02 AM, based on Luke 10:2. When it rings, stop and pray:
“Lord, the harvest is ready. Send workers—and start with me.”
Revival starts with prayer, not performance.
Practice #2: Recognize Your Field
You don’t need to be a missionary overseas. God has already placed you in a field.
Your field might be your neighborhood, the gym, or your own dinner table.
Pick one place this week where you will intentionally bring the peace of Christ.
STORY 2: The School Pickup Line
One dad told me he used to scroll on his phone every day while waiting in the school pickup line.
Then one Monday, after praying Luke 10:2, he looked up—and noticed another dad sitting alone. He said a quick prayer, rolled down the window, and struck up a conversation. Three weeks later, that man came to small group.
You don’t need to preach a sermon. Just start by being present—and bold.
Practice #3: Say Yes to Being Sent
Practice #4: Rejoice in Heaven
Jesus said not to rejoice in the miracles, but in the miracle of salvation.
“Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” – Luke 10:20
Your identity isn’t based on what you do for Jesus, but in what He did for you. That security gives you boldness.
Say this today:
“My joy is not in my success, but in my salvation. I am known and loved by Jesus.”
Monday Practice #5: Begin from Stillness
Take 10 minutes today. No noise. No distractions. Just stillness with Jesus.
Ask Him:
Group or Coffee Conversation:
Final Thoughts:
You Don’t Need to Be Strong—Just Surrendered
You don’t need to know everything—just be willing.
You don’t need to be perfect—just present.
The harvest is ready.
The Spirit is in you.
The Kingdom is near.
So this week…
Let’s go—sent, secure, and full of joy.

- A teacher in our church told us, “I realized my classroom isn’t just for math—it’s my mission field.”
- A man in construction said, “I started praying for my crew instead of just pushing the schedule.”
Your field might be your neighborhood, the gym, or your own dinner table.

Practice #3: Say Yes to Being Sent
- Pray with someone.
- Share your story.
- Invite someone to group.
- Send a verse to a hurting friend.
Practice #4: Rejoice in Heaven

Ask Him:
- “Where are You sending me?”
- “What’s my part in Your harvest?”
Group or Coffee Conversation:
- Where is God sending you?
- What holds you back from witnessing?
- How can we encourage each other to step out in faith?
Final Thoughts:
You Don’t Need to Be Strong—Just Surrendered
You don’t need to know everything—just be willing.
You don’t need to be perfect—just present.
The harvest is ready.
The Spirit is in you.

So this week…
- Pray.
- Show up.
- Share peace.
- Preach Christ.
- And rejoice—not in what you do, but in who you are in Jesus.
Let’s go—sent, secure, and full of joy.
