Rhythms of a Healthy Soul
Martha wasn't lazy. She wasn't sinning. She was just busy — busy with good things, at the expense of the best thing. Meanwhile, her sister Mary sat at Jesus' feet, and He said she'd chosen what could never be taken from her (Luke 10:38–42).
Here's the hard truth: we are all blind to our own blind spots. We don't drift from Jesus on purpose. We drift because our calendars fill up with good things, and nobody schedules "sit at His feet."
So here's my challenge to you this week.
Start daily. Give God the first, unhurried minutes of your day — coffee, Bible open, no agenda but Him. Even ten minutes of listening will reorder the other twenty-three hours and fifty.
Guard weekly. Sabbath isn't a suggestion; it's a rhythm God built into creation before sin ever entered it. Pick a day, protect it, and actually rest.
Plan seasonally. Consider a personal retreat — a day or a weekend, away from noise, with no agenda but to meet with God. I'm doing this myself soon, and I can already tell you: you cannot give away what you haven't received.
Sit like Mary, so you can rise like Martha.
